At this age it's wonderful to read with your child rather than focusing on them reading! You can help with pre-reading skills by pointing to the words as they are said (learning that letters go left to right), helping children interpret the story that is being told in the pictures, helping your children hold the book correctly and identifying the parts of a book (cover, etc).
Finding books that your children enjoy reading helps them develop a love of learning!
